Enhanced Education Program

The Enhanced Education Program was created for students who need more individualized attention than can be provided in the special education classroom. Each Enhanced classroom has no more than five (5) students. Students who are appropriate for the Enhanced classroom often times have difficulty with peers to such a degree that a smaller classroom setting allows them to concentrate more fully on their education. When these students are first accepted into St. Stephen's they are often functioning below grade level and may have evaluations that indicate borderline intellectual ability.

However, with the smaller classroom size, the special education teacher is able to provide more individualized attention to these students allowing them to learn at their own pace. While the students are considered to be in a self-contained classroom, many of the academics are presented outside of the classroom. Support teachers are also involved in the students' education by providing the following courses of instruction to include Physical Education, Health, Art, Computers, Applied Science, and Federal Title 1 Services for Reading and Math.  In addition to the support teachers, these students are also given  the opportunity to participate in educational activities offered on the campus at the greenhouse, horse stables, five miles of nature trails and the small animal program.
