Home / Educational Services / Special Education Program

Special Education Program

Although this program was created for students requiring emotional support, typically these students have both emotional and behavioral issues that need to be addressed in the academic setting.  Students in this program have already been identified by their home school district as needing special education.  With a maximum of twelve special education students in each classroom, the classroom is staffed with both a special education teacher and behavioral support staff.  Secondary education classrooms for grades nine through twelve also have core subject area teachers on their team.  For the students at the primary education level, grades one through eight, the focus is to help the students learn the skills that are necessary to be successful in the educational setting.

While the students are considered to be in a self-contained classroom, many of the academics are presented outside  of the physical classroom.  Support teachers are also involved in the students' education by providing the following courses of instruction to include Physical Education, Health, Art, Computers, Applied Science, and Federal Title 1 Services for Reading and Math.  In addition to the support teachers, these students are also given  the opportunity to participate in educational activities offered on the campus at the greenhouse, horse stables, five miles of nature trails and the small animal program.
